On Tuesday, the Blairsville Borough Council approved advertising the 2023 budget, which will include a new position for the borough.

Upon the request of councilman Jeff Marshall, the borough will add a part-time code enforcement officer.  He said that it’s a position that hasn’t been filled in a long time.

Borough Manager Mike Baker said that with the addition of a $15,000 salary for the new position, the budget will still come together without a tax increase for borough residents.

In other business, borough council approved a change in zoning for a parcel at 1 Old William Penn Highway from “low density residential” to “light industrial” for a proposed auto repair shop to be run by Ben Rees.  As part of that, council also modified the zoning code to allow auto repair shops to be permitted in “light industrial” on a special exception basis, and to approve the special exception for the auto repair shop.

The board also accepted with regret the resignation of Baker as Borough Manager.  He said he wanted to walk away from the job while he still enjoyed it.

The board will post an advertisement for the position.  Baker’s retirement takes effect at the end of the year.
