ORISKANY — While COVID variants are still out there, New York may be moving on from the worst of it — or at the least updating supplies and equipment for a possible next wave.

One sign of that is the auction that the state Office of General Services has scheduled for later in the month, in which some 1,300 decommissioned COVID response items will be auctioned off over two days.

Items range from ambulances and trucks and portable power generators, to phones, construction material and air handling units.
Many were supplied by FEMA, the Federal Emergency Management Agency, while others were decommissioned equipment that state offices had on hand.

Some of the items are from decommissioned facilities, including generators, patient pod rooms, bathroom trailers and showers. OGS officials say the state has sufficient medical and other equipment in case there is another COVID variant or new public health emergency.

The auctions will be at the New York State Preparedness Training Center, 5900 Airport Road in Oriskany, Oneida County, beginning at 9:30 a.m. on both Tuesday, November 29 and Wednesday, November 30.

Bidders can participate in the auctions in person or by proxy in Oriskany and virtually here at https://www.perryauctions.com.

Also being auctioned are HVAC systems and supplies; oxygen supply systems; electrical systems and components; lumber; plumbing fixtures and fittings; fire detection and prevention system components; scaffolding, and shipping containers.

The auctions will also feature items traditionally sold at other OGS vehicle, highway equipment and miscellaneous property auctions. Those include trucks, passenger vehicles and the generators.

All bidders must register to participate in the auctions and can preregister online here or at https://www.perryauctions.com/ to avoid waiting in line during the onsite registration periods.

Preview periods and onsite registration starts at 8 a.m. each day.

Payments from successful bidders are due by 3 p.m. each day and must be in cash or credit card. OGS will provide loading services at no cost for this special auction. The vendor providing these services will also be onsite both days of the auction to schedule pickup times.

In addition to the dates the auctions are taking place, the site will be open for successful bidders to pick up their items between 8 a.m. and 4 p.m. on the Thursday, Friday, Saturday, and Monday immediately following the auctions.

All items must be removed from the auction site by 4 p.m. on Monday, December 5.

Additional information, including the auction catalog, information on specific items, and terms of sale, can be found here or at https://ogs.ny.gov/vehicle-and-equipment-auctions or by contacting OGS at [email protected] or (518) 457-6335.
