A WOMAN who was stuck in Itaewon, Seoul, during the stampede incident used her smartwatch to contact her family after being saved by an employee of a nearby store, Oriental Daily reported.

She lost all her belongings, including her mobile phone, in the stampede, but thanks to her smartwatch, she was able to contact her parents.

Recalling the incident, the woman whose identity was not revealed said she wanted to turn around and leave after realising that there were too many people.

However, her decision came too late and she found herself being pushed into the crowd.

“There were so many people in the alley that I couldn’t walk.

“I thought about getting out of there as soon as possible but suddenly there was a scream and the crowd began to fall.

“I was pushed to a store but my lower body was caught in the crowd and I couldn’t move. The staff in the store rushed out to help and in the chaos I had to let go of my bag and mobile phone,” she said.

Thanks to the smartwatch, the woman could dial emergency contacts and her father, who answered the phone, immediately drove to Itaewon to save his daughter.
